Peanut, the mountain climber

Peanut came to Best Friends when his previous family broke up. He was 10 years old at the time and had never been ridden. While at the sanctuary, Peanut learned to carry riders and also picked up a few other tricks along the way. He started fancying himself a bit of a stunt horse, climbing up on rails, big rocks and so forth. These habits of his made Karla think he could be a good fit for her home in rugged, rocky, mountainous New Mexico.

And guess what? She was right! Peanut absolutely loves trotting up the rocky slopes and around his new home, with Karla to keep him company. Karla says that often it’s just her and Peanut on those rides, with nobody else on the trails. Ever the athlete, Peanut is simply loving all the exercise and the new terrain he gets to explore. And so far he’s been contented enough with his new routine that he’s temporarily given up his quest to become the first horse ever to complete a triple backwards somersault.
